This new series of half-day sessions introduces ikebana, tea, and bonsai and explores the relationship between these practices and the art of the Garden itself. Curators Sadafumi Uchiyama and Diane Durston preface the series by providing a context in which to understand how these three related art forms help us to understand the art of the garden (this presentation will begin with a viewing of the film Dream Windows: Reflections of the Japanese Garden). Ikebana teacher Dr. James Skog introduces Kado, the Way of Flowers; Tea teacher Jan Waldmann introduces Chado, the Way of Tea; and bonsai artist, teacher, and author Dave DeGroot introduces the Art of Bonsai in this weeklong series of special programs.
Participants may register for individual sessions or sign up for the whole four-part seminar at a reduced rate. Hands-on training workshops are limited to eight persons to ensure individual attention. Optional take-home kits that include book, tools, and containers will be available for purchase (prices vary).
